So You Want to Start a Travel Blog?

Do you dream of tropical beaches, visiting theme parks, or experiencing new cultures in faraway lands? How about relaxing at a resort or sharing new experiences with your family? Having the freedom to travel when or how often you want?  We love to take trips as a family but we don’t get to do it very often.  Traveling with a family of six can be crazy expensive.  Most of our trips are short distances from home once or twice a year, with a bigger vacation every few years.

When I started my blog in the summer of 2017, I happened to see an ad for a new blogging course offered by Heather and Pete Reese of It’s A Lovely Life, a lifestyle and travel blog.  I had blogged in the past, but I was starting fresh with a new blog and I knew I wanted to start it off right.  I decided to take the chance and was part of their first Blogging Blast Off class.  I had read everything I could for months on how to start a money making blog, and it is was nowhere close to the amount that I learned in that class.  Whether you are looking to start a blog or have been blogging for a while and want to really grow your blog, Blogging Blast Off will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know to run a successful blog.  You can read more about that course HERE.

Heather and Pete’s travel story started out similar to most of us: one or two short trips close to home every year with a big trip every few years.  Heather has been blogging for many years, but they decided to get into travel blogging a few years ago.  They now travel all over the world 150 days a year.  Most of their trips are covered by resorts, airlines, etc., and they earn a great living from traveling as a family.  After launching the Blogging Blastoff course, they decided to add Travel Blogging Blastoff to the courses they teach.

The Travel Blogging Blastoff is different than any other blog course out there.  It is a 21-day self-paced class where they share their secrets on how to pitch to resorts, book paid trips, and write amazing posts about your experiences.  The course includes several bonuses included access to their list of over 450+ U.S. based Visitor Bureau contacts.  Heather explains everything their course covers so much better than I could, so check out the course description HERE.

The amount of information that Heather and Pete cover in their courses is incredible.  They are experienced, active bloggers who really know what they are talking about and are not just giving you bits and pieces of info.  They care about the bloggers that they are helping and believe that there are plenty of opportunities for everyone.  If you are going to invest money in a course, you want to get your money’s worth and you will find that with the different courses that Pete and Heather teach.   Think about it–how much did you pay for just your hotel stay on your last vacation?  When we travel, we usually average $100-150 per night for one room.  Taking a couple of 3-4 night trips would cost about the same as taking this travel course.  Do you see how quickly you could save money on vacations and recover the cost of this course as a travel blogger?

Starting a new Travel Blog

So how do you actually set up a travel blog as a new blogger? First, you want to set up a self-hosted WordPress blog.  I know there are a lot of free options out there, but they each have issues that will limit your potential to earn money with a blog.  If you seriously want to earn money from a blog, you need to be self-hosted.  My blog is hosted with Blue Host and I have been happy with them.  When issues have come up with my site, they are quick to help fix them. You can check out their plans HERE.

After starting your blog, then check out the Blogging Blastoff course and the Travel Blogging Blastoff.  Blogging Blastoff is a 30-day class that covers how to run a successful blog and starts on the first of each month.  To learn more about that course and to get a monthly coupon code, you can check out my post HERE.  The Travel Blogging Blastoff is a 21-day self-paced course that covers specific ways to build a travel blog.  Each course will give you the knowledge and tools to be a successful blogger.  Being a blogger is hard work, but the potential is unlimited!
