Did you notice that I am posting this month’s 7 Tasks in the first week of the month? Yay! Go me!😄 As spring approaches with its promise of warmer weather (crossing fingers for that soon!), we get more serious about spring cleaning. This month is the perfect time to start tackling some areas that have been neglected for too long.  If you want a free printable of this month’s checklist, sign up for my email newsletter at the end of the post. I send newsletters every couple weeks and I promise not to spam you! 🙂

New to the 7 Tasks to a Clean Home series? This monthly series focuses on 7 tasks around your home that tend to get overlooked or forgotten. Whether you do one or all seven, your home will be cleaner at the end of the month.  Let’s get started in the kitchen.

Task #1: Dishwasher

You would think that the appliance that cleans dishes would stay clean. Nope! I’m guessing that if you checked your dishwasher, it looks pretty gross inside. The front and sides always seem to collect gunk.

My favorite dishwasher cleaner is Glisten Dishwasher Magic.  It leaves the dishwasher clean and fresh smelling. You can also try baking soda and vinegar. Wipe down the inside, sides, and the front of your dishwasher to make it sparkle.

Task #2: Clean the sink area

For this task, we are focusing on the whole sink area. Start by cleaning your kitchen sink. This task has been included in previous lists because I feel like it is really important. A clean sink tends to spread to the rest of the kitchen. It is also one of the grossest places for bacteria to hide out, so give it a good cleaning.

I have a quartz sink so I clean mine with 409 and then polish it with this cleaner. While you are cleaning your sink, check your faucet. Have the holes become clogged with hard water deposits? Fill a baggie with vinegar and secure it to the faucet with a rubber band to soak the nozzle and remove deposits.

The second part of this task is to clean the area underneath your sink. I store soap, misc. items, and empty canning jars under my sink.  Every once in a while, I go through the jars and take a load of them to my storage room. Take some time to straighten this area up and throw out any trash.

Task #3: Utensil Holder

The utensil holder is one of those items that gets used on a daily basis, but we forget that it gets dirty.  I’m not sure how it gets so many crumbs in it, but it always does.  Every few months, I empty everything out and wash it down.  This is one of those quick and easy tasks that should only take a few minutes.

Task #4: Living Room

In our home, we have a formal living room and a great room.  This month, I am focusing on the living room.  It is the first and only room that people usually see when they come over. It tends to get overlooked since it isn’t a room that we use a lot.  This room looks fairly clean, but if you look under the couches, there is a lot of dust.

For this task, wash down the walls, baseboards, and window sill.  Dust the blinds and other items in the room and clean underneath the furniture.  If you have carpet, then have someone help you move them to vacuum underneath (hopefully they don’t look like my basement couches in February’s 7 Tasks).

Task #5: Hallway

In January, we focused on the entryway.  This month, we are going to focus on the hallways.  Dust the picture frames and wash the walls, baseboards, and doors in the hallway(s).

Task #6: Craft/Office area

I am going to guess that most of us have a craft or office space in our homes.  In my house, I am lucky to have a small craft room for my paper craft supplies.  It is also the room that everything gets thrown into when we have company over (sound familiar to anyone else??).  In case you are wondering, the cabinets came from Home Depot and the tables and cube shelf are from IKEA. 🙂

This room has seen some serious neglect in the past few months and really needs some attention.  One of my goals this month is to really focus on this room and get it cleaned back up.  If you have a craft room or office area that needs some attention, then take time this month to clean and organize it.  Organize and declutter items that you don’t use. Throw away or recycle trash. Wash walls, baseboards, window sill, and doors.  Dust and vacuum well.  I personally have A LOT easier time staying focused when my creative space is clean.

Task #7: Clean out your car

This series usually focuses on our homes, but I am adding this task in this month because our vehicles tend to be an extension of our homes.  Most of us spend a good amount of time in our vehicles, especially if you are a mom running kids around to various activities.  When my kids were small, it was easy to grab trash out of the back seat when I got kids out of car seats.  As they have grown out of that stage the past few years, I fell out of the habit and my kids seem to forget to take stuff out with them.  I am surprised/disgusted with what I often find in the back seat of my car.

When was the last time you washed your car, cleaned out the trash, and vacuumed the inside? Take some time this month to give your car a good cleaning. Don’t forget to wash the windows from the inside and dust the console and dashboard.  I promise it will make you feel great the next time you drive your car.

That’s all for March. Spring break is a great time to tackle some of these tasks with your kids.  If you would like the printable of March’s checklist, sign up for my email newsletter below!  If you have already subscribed, be on the lookout for this week’s newsletter with the link.

  1. I love your office space!! The cabinets are a nice storage option. I love the cube storage. We have a few of those selves in our home, too. While they sometimes become a catch all, we do try to keep them somewhat organized!
