Welcome to Week 6 of the 7 Tasks for a Cleaner Home series! This post is a couple days late this week because I figured everyone was pretty busy with Halloween and didn’t want to worry about cleaning. If you are new here, no worries! Just jump right in and do the tasks on the list that you need to do around your home.  Whether you do one task or all seven, your home will be cleaner by the end of the week.  To see previous posts in this series, check out the 7 Tasks for a Cleaner Home category or click on a previous week at the bottom of this post.  Want a printable list for week 5 & 6? Over the next few weeks, we are concentrating on getting our homes ready for holiday company.  Let’s get to work!

Task #1-Kitchen Drawers and Cabinets

This week, we are going to concentrate on cleaning drawers around our home, and we are starting in the kitchen.  Amazing how many crumbs can collect in drawers that are closed most of the time!  Cabinets seem to stay a little cleaner but check them for crumbs too.  We keep our toaster in the lazy susan and it gets pretty messy.  Definitely time to wipe it down again!  If you haven’t wiped the outside of your cabinets down yet (see week #4), then take some time to do that too.

Task #2-The Container Drawer

Oh, the disposable container drawer.  Sometimes one of the toughest places to keep organized in a kitchen.  Years ago, I went through this drawer and organized my containers and lids by size and shape.  For the most part, it stays pretty organized.  Every once in a while, I pull everything out and match up lids to containers.  If they don’t have a match, I toss it.  I also go through and throw out any container that is stained or worn out.  Running low on containers? Add a new set HERE or HERE.

Task #3-Master Bedroom Dresser

Has it been a while since you went through all of your dresser drawers? Take some time this week to go through each drawer.  Organize, fold, and declutter items that don’t fit or are worn out.  This is one of those tasks that will make you smile every time you open your drawer.

Task #4-Kids Dressers

If you have teenagers like mine, you probably steer clear of their rooms.  Add this task to their list of chores for the week (they won’t love you for it, but their dressers likely REALLY need it).  If you have younger kids, you can help them go through their clothes and donate anything that doesn’t fit anymore.  If you did this task a few months ago, it is still a good idea to check for summer clothes that might be hiding in there still.

Task #5-Bathroom Vanity Drawers

Drawers in the bathroom can be the dirtiest in the house.  With four girls in our house with long blond hair, there is no shortage of hair accessories, hairbrushes, hair products, curling irons, makeup, and let’s not forget toothpaste, facewash, lotions, nail polish, etc…. There is a lot of stuff in our bathroom drawers, and a lot of potential for stuff to get spilled.  Surprisingly, our bathrooms aren’t too bad, but it is still a good idea to wipe them clean and straighten them up.  Sometimes that holiday company can be a little snoopy. 🙂

Task #6-Couch cushions

Returning to the main area of your home, task #6 is cleaning out in between the couch cushions.  If you can take your cushions off, it will be a little easier.  The couches in our great room don’t have removable cushions, so I will just vacuum between each one.  Pretty gross!

Task #7-Hall closet

The final task for the week is kind of a big one.    We are tackling the big bad hall closet.  This closet is in our basement, and it contains board games, paper products (plates, bowls, plastic utensils), holiday decor, extra kitchen items, luggage, etc.  Things usually get thrown back in here without much organization, and it has been a while since I have dealt with this closet.  Time to make some time for this space.

Well, that was a pretty good list.  🙂  Want a printable list of this week’s tasks? Sign up for my emails below to access the printables for each week in the 7 Task series.  Have a wonderful week!
